Jeff Gordon elected to take 2 tires on the last pit stop of the race .But on the final cation that he could he pitted and fell back. But the story of the night was The hole in turn one that caused a hour 40 minute long red flag then a few laps later a 30 minute long red flag. But after 2 attempts at a green, white, checkered finish Jamie mcmurray took the lead and rode with it on the first lap but then a cheer went up. Dale Jr. had gone from 10Th to 2ND in 2 laps and tried to pass but Mcmurray won and with tears in his eyes he accepted the Dayton 500 trophy.
